Started on 1st June 2019, the BIOnTOP project – coordinated by AIMPLAS – has received funding from the BBI-JU. The BBI- JU is operating under European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement No 837761 with the aim of developing cost-competitive bio-based packaging product that are biodegradable/compostable and/or recyclable. The project activities will last 48 months and the foreseen budget amount is about 5.4 Million euro, with the BBI-JU contribution of 4.2Million euro.
This project involves 21 partners from 8 countries selected for their specific background, relevant for the activities of BIOnTOP project. ENCO leads all the Dissemination and Exploitation activities of the project. In particular, ENCO has developed a plan for the dissemination and exploitation of project results (PEDR) to boost the impacts of BIOnTOP innovations within the EU market.
Today in Europe, just a 31% of all plastic waste is recycled. In this view, it is very important to find new ways to reduce the landfill waste and to introduce new solution to treat plastic in a more sustainable way, improving circular economy. The idea behind BIOnTOP project is to develop new bio-copolymers, compound, biocomposite & coating formulation and process them into new packaging, trays and films with a longest EoL and a composition of renewable resource of at least 85%, reducing the plastic footprint and positively improving the environmental impact.
This project has received funding from the Bio Based Industries Joint Undertaking under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 837761
