BIOSUSSET

BIOSUSSET

Development of safe and sustainable methods to produce polyurethane and epoxy thermosets from bio-based sorbitol and isosorbide based precursors.

BIOSUSSET is a project that develops safer and more sustainable thermoset resins to replace conventional materials such as polyurethanes and epoxy resins, which are still mainly produced from fossil-based and potentially harmful substances.

Traditional resins can release volatile organic compounds, create risks for workers, and have negative impacts on the environment, especially at the end of their life, when they are difficult to recycle. To address these challenges, BIOSUSSET uses agri-food waste as a starting resource to produce new bio-based chemical building blocks with a high renewable content.

The project will develop innovative and more sustainable processes to transform sugars and other compounds from waste into safer ingredients for the production of epoxy resins, sustainable polyurethanes, and non-isocyanate polyurethanes. In this way, problematic substances such as BPA and epichlorohydrin can be replaced with bio-based alternatives that are less harmful to people and the environment.

The new materials will be tested in different industrial applications, including composites, adhesives, wind blades, and technical coatings. BIOSUSSET will also assess their technical performance, environmental impact, safety, costs, and social aspects.

Overall, BIOSUSSET aims to make resin production more sustainable, safer, and more circular, supporting the transition towards a cleaner chemical industry with lower emissions and reduced pollution, in line with the objectives of the European Green Deal.

Our Role

ENCO will act as Work Package Leader for Communication, Dissemination, Exploitation and IPR Management within the project. In this role, ENCO will coordinate all activities aimed at increasing the visibility of the project, promoting its results among relevant stakeholders, and ensuring that the knowledge generated is properly shared, protected and valorised. In parallel, ENCO will support the consortium in identifying and monitoring the project’s Key Exploitable Results, defining suitable exploitation pathways, analysing market opportunities, and preparing the basis for future uptake of the developed solutions. As IPR Manager, ENCO will also guide partners in the management of intellectual property, supporting procedures for result ownership, protection, confidentiality, access rights and exploitation agreements.
