biogeniC gasEsous caRbon conversion into high added value chemicals and ingredients through a bio-based NETwork
CERNET aims to turn unused carbon emissions (like CO₂ and methane) from sectors such as wineries, waste treatment, and bioethanol production into valuable chemicals and ingredients using renewable energy. These bio-based products, like sorbitol, ectoine, and PHA, will be tested in everyday sectors like food, cosmetics, cleaning, and packaging.
By doing so, the project not only reduces emissions but also boosts Europe’s industrial independence by producing goods we often import. The project brings together 21 partners across 10 countries and will demonstrate these technologies in real industrial settings.
Our Role
ENCO supports the market readiness and industrial uptake of CERNET’s innovative bio-based value chains by:
Co-designing business models that ensure the economic viability and scalability of the proposed technologies within real industrial contexts.
Defining an enabling regulatory and certification framework, with a focus on the voluntary carbon market and alignment with Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) requirements.
Developing a comprehensive replication roadmap to facilitate the transfer and adaptation of CERNET solutions to other European biorefineries, while addressing potential regulatory, technical, and market-related barriers.
