PANACEA

PANACEA

Empowering Families to Mediterranean Healthy and Sustainable Dietary Patterns during the Perinatal Period through a Community-Level Multicomponent Approach

PANACEA is an innovative project that helps pregnant women, their partners, and their babies adopt healthier and more sustainable eating and lifestyle habits in the Mediterranean region.

The project is based on the Mediterranean Diet, which is important for health, the environment, and Mediterranean culture. PANACEA focuses on the first 1,000 days, from pregnancy to early childhood, because eating habits during this period can have a long-term impact on health.

To support families, PANACEA will run a 10.5-month programme in Spain, Italy, and Egypt, involving 420 families. The programme will include a digital AI coach, cooking workshops, practical materials, tools to improve access to local and sustainable food, short food supply chains, peer-support forums, and a reward-based game system.

The activities will be designed together with local communities through Living Labs. This means that pregnant women, partners, and local stakeholders will help shape the project according to their real needs and experiences.

PANACEA will measure the effects of the programme on health, eating habits, wellbeing, and the environment. Its final goal is to help families make healthier food choices, support more sustainable food systems, and improve wellbeing for future generations.
