Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) quantifies the potential environmental impacts of a product, process or service across its entire life cycle – from raw material extraction to end-of-life – following cradle-to-grave (or, where appropriate, cradle-to-gate / cradle-to-cradle) system boundaries. ENCO carries out LCA in accordance with the EU Environmental Footprint (EF) methods as promoted by Commission Recommendation (EU) 2021/2279 and related PEF/OEF guidance, and the ILCD Handbook provisions on goal and scope definition, life cycle inventory, impact assessment and review, ensuring consistency with ISO 14040:2006 and ISO 14044:2006, including their 2020 amendments.
Techno-Economic Assessment (TEA) evaluates the economic performance and scalability of technologies, products or services over their life cycle, in a way that is consistent with the LCA/EF framework (same functional unit, system boundaries and scenarios). ENCO applies transparent, discounted-cash-flow and cost-benefit modelling to estimate capital and operating expenditures, levelised cost of product, payback time, net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR) and other key indicators, building on state-of-the-art international TEA practice (e.g. NREL, IEA and sector-specific TEA guidelines) and ensuring full integration with the environmental assessment.
